Welcome to Preseli Bluestone
Nestled amidst the undulating landscape of the Preseli Hills in North
Pembrokeshire is the home of farmer Llew Rees.
With the help of his extended family Llew farms the breadth of the Pembrokeshire National Park’s Preseli Hills with his flocks of Welsh mountain lamb and herds of prime Welsh cattle.
The Preseli Hills
The Preseli Hills form the backbone to the Pembrokeshire Coast
National Park that boasts some of the most spectacular scenery and
diverse wildlife in Britain, including internationally important nature
reserves, geology and archaeology.
The Preseli Hills are crisscrossed with ley lines, ancient trackways, standing stones, burial chambers and stone circles and the hills sparkle with shining white crystal quartz. The Preseli Hills create the perfect natural habitat for livestock. An abundance of natural forage including grasses, herbs and flowers provides the ideal environment to breed and rear healthy animals.
It is this livestock that has provided the healthy diet for local
farming families for generations. Llew Rees’ great passion for farming
and producing meat of the very best quality has driven the desire to make
this fabulous produce more widely available to customers further afield.
The Brand
The first task was to create a brand that could identify the produce as originating from the region. The brand takes its name from the bluestones that are scattered across the Hills were the sheep and cattle graze. It is the giant bluestones of the Preseli Hills that form part of the great monument of Stonehenge in Wiltshire, Preseli Bluestone Lamb and Beef was born!
The Business
After the development of the brand came the investment in modern,
local abattoir facilities. These are located close to the Preseli Hills
at Haverfordwest in the heart Pembrokeshire, meaning that livestock
travel a very short journey from field to processing.
Following the establishment of the abattoir next came the development of a purpose built catering butchery. Here the team of specialist catering butchers prepare and pack Preseli Bluestone Lamb and Beef to exacting customer requirements. For ease of access to the wider market the butchery is located close to the M4 corridor at Carmarthen, and trades under the name of Cooper and Parish Ltd.
